It seems Robert McCammon is returning to the kind of work that made me love him – a contemporary story with strong horror / supernatural elements. In The Five (to be released in paperback by Tor on Nov. 26th) a rock band on the verge of breaking up decides to write a last song together – one that will have an incredible impact on a soldier in the future. Consequently, there is a force working to ensure the song does not get written. Listen to the interview to get a better understanding of the premise.
After completing the novel, McCammon was inspired to write the lyrics for The Darkest Night, which is performed by Dorian Lives in the video below. It begins at 2:40:

WATCH THE TRAILER FOR STEPHEN KING’S MUSICAL
Speaking of horror and music, Stephen King has collaborated with John Mellencamp to create a play, The Ghost Brothers of Darkland County. I’m intrigued.
I’ll share a video or two in upcoming weeks on Macabre & Mysterious Music Mondays.

READ ELOQUENT MUSINGS ON HAUNTINGS
Paranormal investigator, Randall Keller, just wrote his 100th blog post, and it’s a beautiful, if sad, rumination on being haunted. Read Help! at The Voices.

DISCOVER THE 11 NATIONS
This book, by Colin Woodard, came to my attention early this week, and now it’s everywhere. The idea is that our nation is actually separated into 11 ideologically different regions, grounded in the cultures of the original settlers of each region. Look closely at the cover to see which region you live in. I’m in Yankeedom.
You’ve probably seen it too. If not, check out some summaries / teasers:
The Washington Post * NPR * Bloomberg
Any thoughts? I can’t wait to read the book.

CONTEMPLATE YOUR MORTALITY I
Tom Hussey is a brilliant photographer in general, but I’m particularly taken with his series, Reflection, in which he shows his subjects looking into a mirror and seeing a younger self:

CONTEMPLATE YOUR MORTALITY II
I promised my friend that I’d share a link to a blog she would particularly enjoy, Order of the Good Death.
The blog is interesting, but the best part of it is in the videos section. I’m a huge fan of Caitlin and her work, and I encourage you to check out what she does. Recently, I stayed up until six o’clock in the morning, watching all of her videos, one after another. Here’s episode 1. I assume you will have more self-control than me.
And here is a link to all of her YouTube videos.
