~THE MOVIES~

NEW ON NETFLIX & IN REDBOX:

Sleepy Hollow (1999)

Available on DVD from Netflix.
Available streaming on Netflix.
Not Available from Redbox.
Here’s one  that I feature on my 13 Halloween-Themed Movies, freshly returned to streaming.
On IMDb here.

Reservation Road (2014)

Available on DVD from Netflix.
Available streaming on Netflix.
Not Available from Redbox.
Now here’s a cast to catch the eye: Joaquin Phoenix, Mark Ruffalo, Mira Sorvino, Jennifer Connelly. I didn’t know this was out there until I just found it in Netflix. It looks like a straight-up drama as opposed to a mystery, so it’s off topic for the blog, but that’s not going to stop me from watching it.
On IMDb here.

Dark Was the Night (2014)

Available on DVD from Netflix.
Available streaming on Netflix.
No longer Available from Redbox.
From IMDb: “An evil is unleashed in a small town when a logging company sets up shop in the neighboring woods.” Hmm. If I had more time, I’d watch more movies.
On IMDb here.

Tormented (2015?)

Not Available on DVD from Netflix.
Not Available streaming on Netflix.
No longer Available from Redbox.
Well, hell. This is CLEARLY set on Halloween, so I’m probably going to have to watch it for possible inclusion on the 13 Halloween-themed movies list. I hate home invasion movies. I hope there’s a twist in this.
Oh. Dear. Not On IMDb?!? Well that doesn’t bode well. UPDATE: I “missed” it, and no it’s nowhere. Oh well.

Learn more and buy your tickets HERE.

My beloved Ogre has already reserved our seats. I can’t wait until Sunday!
On IMDb here.

Cooties (2015) R

Playing how and where? It SAYS the release date is 9/18 … but you can also get it on DVD right now?

Available on DVD from Netflix.
Not Available streaming on Netflix.
Available from Redbox.
I love both Elijah Wood and Rainn Wilson, but this otherwise don’t appeal to me, based on the trailer. (I’m really not a fan of horror comedy.) If you see it let me know how you did so, and if you’d recommend it. Probably I’ll be waiting for it to come to Netflix streaming.
On IMDb here.

Pawn Sacrifice (2015) PG-13

In general release September 16th.
Not paranormal perhaps, but maybe a little mysterious? Okay. It’s an outlier. Regardless, I’m looking forward to this one. I’ve always had a bit of a fascination for Bobby Fischer.

From MovieWebIn a gripping true story set during the height of the Cold War, American chess prodigy Bobby Fischer (Tobey Maguire) finds himself caught between two superpowers when he challenges the Soviet Empire. Also starring Liev Schreiber and Peter Sarsgaard, Pawn Sacrifice chronicles Fischer’s terrifying struggles with genius and madness, and the rise and fall of a kid from Brooklyn who captured the imagination of the world.

On IMDb here.

The Visit (2015) PG-13

Available on DVD from Netflix.
No longer Available streaming on Netflix.
No longer Available from Redbox.
Writer/director/producer M. Night Shyamalan is back, with a story about scary, scary grandparents. I have hopes, but they aren’t high. ‘Trying to hang onto my faith that the guy who who made The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable will return one of these times. UPDATE: Okay. This was pretty good. In fact I loved it until, like most modern horror movies, it took a turn into some … grossness that I didn’t like. I think it’s worth the watch though.
On IMDb here.

~ON TV~

I’ll get back to you on the television front, later this week.

Love the Springsteen cover! Nebraska is one of my favorite songs of his. As for Tormented and Dark Was the Night both are now available on DVD; at least they are here in Bakersfield at Walmart. Excellent post!

    P.S. Love Sleepy Hollow!!

  3. I’m a Sleepy Hollow fan too. And Psycho is always good for a spooky playlist. 😉 I haven’t seen the others, yet.Dark Was the Night looks very interesting though!
