Courting Creepy: 13 slots for an ever-shifting list of movies I have to see asap.
Posted: October 30, 2012 Filed under: *Macabre Media, Courting Creepy Posts, Movies & Films | Tags: bits 'o creepiness, horror, horror films, horror movies, Renae Rude, The Paranormalist 16 CommentsAs I create these Courting Creepy lists, I repeatedly discover gaps in my viewed-films list. My knowledge of zombie movies, for example, was so thin that I had to ask a guest blogger to construct a 13 crucial zombie films list for me. Each time I write a supposedly definitive list, I receive suggestions from readers for additions and replacements. Though I stand by my choices, I must also admit that I haven’t seen everything and, consequently, I could be missing a great film. I’ve been trying to keep the list of must-see movies in my head, and/or on random scraps of paper. It just occurred to me, that this is a better way to keep track. Duh.

As with all the lists, feel free (even compelled) to make suggestions and recommendations!

Don’t Look Now needs to go to the top of the list!
Your suggestion is my command 🙂
‘Prince of Darkness’ by John Carpenter should be a priority! And add ‘The Changeling’ to your list!
I loved The Changeling! It’s one of the best ghost stories on film, I think. Based on your excellent taste, I will push Prince of Darkness higher. (Of course, some of this depends on when I can find a particular film.)
The Changeling is magnificent. Don’t Look Now is a good number one choice. Really the entire list is good. I just watched The Haunting of Julia the other night. Very very creepy! I’ll need to reread Peter Straub’s novel now to see how closely the movie followed it…
Another Changling fan! Excellent. Of course, if we keep talking about that movie, I’m going to end up watching it again, instead of getting on with all the other viewing I need to do.
I’d forgotten about Straub’s story … now I have to decide if I should read first or watch first.
You haven’t seen Candyman?! Or are you saying you want to watch it again?
I have read very mixed reviews of Trick r Treat, so I’ve been wondering whether to look for it for a while now, although I don’t know if it’s an easy film to find.
Wow, Robyn. I somehow missed this comment when it came in. Sorry about that. No, I haven’t yet seen Candyman. That’s a bad gap, isn’t it?
By all means, watch Trick ‘r Treat if you can get your hands on it. I saw it via Netflix disc … but I got the feeling they have, like, one copy because I had to wait for it to be shipped from some distant distribution center. It’s bloody and silly, but it’s also a beautiful depiction of Halloweentime.
I just listed it as a must-see if you’re looking for Halloween-themed movies:

Another Changeling fan. Totally creepy, as is the original Haunting of Hill House which my sister and I saw as children and couldn’t sleep after. I know it’s a comedy, but The Ghost and Mr. Chicken with Don Knotts scared us also when we saw it at a theatre in the 1960s.
Ok. You got me. Now I have to see The GHost and Mr. Chicken. Sounds like a perfect film for a rainy, late fall afternoon. I’ll see if I can add it to my Netflix queue.
I love this ongoing list.
Let’s Scare Jessica to Death was a movie that frightened me as a little kid. I’d love to see it now and laugh. God Told Me To is worth watching because you get a quick look at a pre-famous Andy Kaufman as a cop.
Thanks, Jack. It’s a fun project, though I always feel like I’m behind!
The compilation is quite good. You could add Final Destination, all sequels (1-5) and House of Wax (2005) and the older one. It is creepy.
I am ashamed to admit I haven’t seen any of the Final Destination movies. Seems like a big hole. I loved House of Wax (1953) with Vincent Price, but it does’t have any ghostly elements, if I remember correctly. I should find a place for it on one of my other lists.
